Accessing Apprentice Finder

Select one fo the two options depending on if you are looking to be an Apprentice, or an Employer looking to employ an Apprentice, and follow the registration process.

Visit https://apprenticefinder.co.nz and click on Login in the top-right corner. Enter your email and password in the fields indicated.

Click Login and then click Forgot your password? beneath the password field. Follow the ensuing instructions.

Alternatively enter your email address below and we will send you a password reset link.

Setting Up an Apprentice Profile

You can set up your Profile without uploading a CV but we recommend adding a CV to increase the level of interest from potential employers. You can visit https://www.careers.govt.nz/tools/cv-builder/ for help building your own CV.

Check that the file you are trying to upload is one of the following formats:

  • .doc
  • .docx
  • .pdf
  • .txt
  • .rtf
and try again

The file you are trying to upload might be too large. Files have a max size of 8mb

You must have the right to work in New Zealand to undertake an apprenticeship. If you are on a valid work visa you must provide the visa type, visa number and expiry date, along with an uploaded image of the visa.

If you have any mandatory sections incomplete the required fields will display with a red border.

Check that you have ticked the I am not a robot Captcha box, and read and ticked the Terms and Conditions box.

Check your spam or junk email folder.

You may have entered an incorrect email address. Click Change email and enter a corrected email address.

If you email is correct, click Resend email.

Make sure the password you are entering is at least 8 characters long.

Make sure you are entering the exact same password in the Confirm password field (this is case sensitive).

When you are logged into Apprentice Finder, click on your name in the top-right, and from the dropdown select Settings.

When on your profile page, click on edit in the top-right, make the changes, and click Update.

When you are logged into Apprentice Finder, click on your name in the top-right, and from the dropdown select Settings.

Enter your current password, then enter your new password and repeat in the box below to confirm. Click Update.

You can also reset your password by click on Forgot your password? while logging in

When you are logged into Apprentice Finder, click on your name in the top-right, and from the dropdown select Settings.

Click the button Inactive profile and in the pop-ip window click Confirm.

Your details will be made available to potential employer electrical contractors and will be reviewed by our administrators to ensure this is in-line with our Term and Conditions.

Applying For An Apprenticeship

The job board page will show you all current apprenticeships available.

You can narrow your search by writing a keyword in the Search jobs section, such as a specific company name or industry sector, and clicking Find.

You can search just for apprenticeships in a particular location by clicking Location, selecting the locations you want to work in, then clicking Find.

You can manage the order that adverts are displayed by clicking Sort results and selecting to view newest first, oldest first, or alphabetical order.

If you like the look of a job advert, but are not ready to apply yet, you can save it by clicking the plug icon in the top-right corner of the advert tile on the job board, or clicking Save when viewing the full job advert

You can revisit your Saved adverts by clicking Saved Jobs in the website's top navigation bar

Saved jobs can be un-saved by clicking on the plug icon again.

Click anywhere on the job advert tile on the job board, or by clicking on the job advert title in your Saved Jobs, and then click Apply in the job details section.

Once you have clicked Apply a confirmation window will pop-up. Click Submit application and the advertiser will be notified of your application and they will be able to see your Apprentice Finder profile.

If the advertiser wants to contact you to discuss your application, they can click Connect on your profile, which will then show them the contact details you entered on your Apprentice Profile.

From the main website click on Applied Jobs in the top navigation bar, or if in Saved Jobs page then click on the Applied tab;

Find the job that you applied to and click on Withdraw application;

Click Yes on the confirmation pop-up window.

We only send an email notification at 83 days and 90 days without logging in, warning your account is going to be deactivated if you don't login. You will not receive these emails if you deactivate your account any sooner.

Setting Up an Employer Profile

You can create an Employer Profile without a logo, but we encourage logos to be uploaded so that your company stands out better in job advert search results

The file must be a png, jpeg/jpg or gif, and also has max size of 8mb.

Displaying a company video on job adverts is optional, but helps the advert stand out and better informs potential applicants. A video featuring your own employees talking about the company culture and what the job entails would be ideal.

This is the license number issued by the Electrical Workers Registration Board to a manager or supervisor in your company and will be displayed on their license ID card.

If you are a licensed electrical worker you can find your EWRB number by entering search details at https://kete.mbie.govt.nz/EW/EWPRSearch/

You will not be able to create an Employer Profile to search for apprentices on Apprentice Finder until you obtain an EWRB licence.

Posting and Managing Job Adverts

Searching for an Apprentice

Your employer dashboard will show total applicant numbers in the Job applicants section. You can view applicant profiles by clicking View next to the applicants number on each advert on the dashboard.

The applicants page will show you a summary of each applicant. Click Connect to reveal their contact details and click on their name to see their full Profile.

You can click Reject on the Apprentice Profile to mark them as unsuitable for your requirements.

Try posting another advert but changing some of the content or classification details, or improving your company profile with logo, video or extra content.

Click on Apprentices in the top navigation bar to go to the Apprentice Board and see all aspiring apprentice profiles.

You can search just for apprentices looking for work in a particular location by clicking Location, selecting the locations that apply, then clicking Find.

You can manage the order that apprentices are displayed by clicking Sort results and selecting to view most or least recently registered, or alphabetical order.

If you like the look of an apprentice profile, but are not ready to make contact or approach them yet, you can save it by clicking the plug icon in the top-right corner of the apprentice tile on the apprentice board, or clicking Save when viewing the full profile.

You can revisit your Saved apprentice profiles by clicking on their name in the My Saved section of the employer dashboard.

Saved apprentice profiles can be un-saved by clicking on the plug icon again.

Click Connect on the apprentice profile to reveal their phone and email contact details, and make contact in the way you prefer.

After three days you will receive an email reminder asking you to inform Skills Group of feedback on the aspiring apprentice and if you would like to offer them an apprenticeship.

Email Notifications

You can stop receiving notifications for applications to your job adverts by going to Settings and in the Notifications section selecting Don't send me any applicants then clicking Update.

You cannot currently unsubscribe from other system notification emails.

The default setting is to receive a daily summary of all new applicants to your job adverts posted on Apprentice Finder.

You can change the frequency by clicking on your name in the top-right, clicking on Settings, and then selecting an option from the dropdown in the Notifications section. Click Update to save your preferences.

Managing Company Account

When you are logged in to Apprentice Finder, click on your name in the top-right, and from the dropdown select Profile.

Alternatively, you can click Profile in the top navigation bar.

When on your profile page, click on edit in the top-right, make the changes, and click Update.

Click on User management in the main employer dashboard.

Click Add User, fill in their details and select their permission levels. Click Continue.

You can also remove staff members from Apprentice Finder by clicking on Deactivate.

You have not been given permission to manage Users for your company account with Apprentice Finder. You will need your main admin User to perform these tasks, or update your User permissions.

This is where Apprentice Finder stores your company's branded collateral for use on job adverts, such as company logo or other imagery.

You can add new files for use in future adverts, or replace existing brands which will update on any live adverts.

The optimal image resolution is 490 x 105 to fill the whole space on the job advert tile.
